Promoting Integrated Ecosystem and Natural Resource Management
Project Summary
This project will demonstrate integrated ecosystem and watershed management for sustainable rural development with conservation of globally significant biodiversity, carbon sequestration and protection of national and international hydrological resources in three areas in Honduras. GEF resources will be used to incorporate integrated ecosystem and watershed management objectives, principles, techniques and practices into a rural development programme, called FONADERS 2, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and financed by the International Fund for Agriculture and Development (IFAD). This integrated and complementary approach will reduce rural poverty as well as sustainably manage local natural resources and secure global environmental benefits. The project will serve as a demonstration for activities outside protected areas throughout the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor.
