Preparation of the First National Communication in Response to the Provisions of the UNFCCC

Project Summary

The objective of the proposed project is to reduce the wasteful flaring of natural gas associated with the development of the Sedigi oil field by using the natural gas as a fuel for electricity generation and other stationary uses most likely in the form of compressed natural gas (CNG) and as a substitute for traditional fuel and fossil fuels. Using Sedigi gas productively instead of flaring it will result in the net displacement of some 1,500,000 tons of carbon (5.5 million tons of carbon dioxide) which would otherwise be emitted as a result of use of alternative fuels for power generation and other stationary uses (such as diesel oil) and of traditional fuels (charcoal and woodfuels) by households, commercial, and industrial operations.
