Phase Out of the Residual Methyl Bromide Consumption in Agriculture and in Post-Harvest Sector
Project Summary
The overall objective of the project is to phase out the total national consumption of Methyl Bromide, with the exception of quantities used for Quarantine and Pre-Shipment fumigation and for feedstock applications.The project will assist the country in complying with its Montreal Protocol obligations.Through the adoption of technical and economical feasible alternatives, the project will tackle the agriculture sector, where Methyl Bromide is used to control soilborne pests, and the commodity sector, where Methyl Bromide is commonly used to treat commodities, warehouses and food processing plants. The project objective will also be achieved through the following activities: introduction of participatory funding systems; enhancement of ODS existing regulations; enforcement of customs activity; awareness and dissemination of know-how; technical training on the application of Integrated Pest Management and other modern and environmental-friendly technologies.
