Partnerships for Conservation Management of the Aketajawe-Lolobata National Park, North Maluku Province
Project Summary
The proposed project's central development objective is to develop and test a collaborative framework to manage protected areas in Indonesia and protect key biodiversity areas and ecosystem services in North Maluku. The new approach would be tested in ALNP in Halmahera Island, North Maluku, and if deemed successful, its pilot interventions would be adopted elsewhere in the country. In particular, the project proposes to: (a) involve local stakeholders, including local government, the private sector and adjacent communities, in the conservation of ALNP through an awareness program, management agreements, and the creation of a multi-stakeholder forum; (b) implement targeted conservation interventions to protect the biodiversity and forests of ALNP and build conservation management skills; and, (c) disseminate lessons learned and guidance on replicating the project’s lessons to national parks and concerned stakeholders throughout Indonesia.
