Nature Reserves Management
Project Summary
In accordance with China's NEAP and BAP priorities, this project will prepare and implement management plans in five priority protected areas, train staff, fund physical investments, and work with communities adjacent to and within PA boundaries to create incentives for sustainable resource use. A second component will restructure a major timber industry in Changqing to promote sustainable forestry, and create a core protected area of giant panda habitat, surrounded by a limited-use production/buffer zone. The project will build technical and managerial capacity of DNR through developing a national training team for biodiversity. It will fund a national nature reserve plan, equipment, policy studies and operational research, and set up an information management system.
