Initial assistance to Sudan to meet its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
Project Summary
The objective of this Enabling Activity (EA) is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Sudan to meet the country’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including preparation of a POPs National Implementation Plan (NIP). The NIP will describe how Sudan will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and manage POPs-contaminated sites in an environmentally sound manner. By facilitating dialogue, information exchange and co-operation between relevant stakeholders - including the governmental, non-governmental, academic and private sectors - the EA will ensure that POPs are better taken into account in planning and strategy formulation for different economic and technical sectors.
