CPP: Burkina Faso - Sub-programme of the Northern Region-under Partnership Programme for Sustainable Land Management

The goal of the SLM/North pilot sub programme is to contribute to the fight againstdesertification through unleashing a process of integrated natural resource management involving the empowerment of all stakeholders to combat desertification and its negative effects. The expected results are the development of a stimulating technical, organizational institutional, political and legislative environment for the rehabilitation and preservation of degraded lands.The key principles driving this activity are partnership, innovative techniques for sustainable restoration and use of land, co-management of natural resources, and participation of all stakeholders.Component 1: Participatory decision making and environmental planning Component 2: Land tenure Security and Sustainable land management investment incentivesComponent 3: Ecological integrity and sustainable management of selected watersheds ecosystems,Component 4: Project managementThe project area consists of 5 provinces in the Northern zone of the country: Bam, Loroum, Passore, Yatenga and Zondoma, covered by the Sustainable Rural Development Plan (SRDP) - 21,057 km2 (8% of BF). The population estimation is 358,311 inhabitants (66 inh./km2).The net project area consist of five local areas of 1,000ha each: 1. You watershed in Loroum Province, 2. Bilingua-Nogo watershed in Yatenga Province, 3. Minima-Kontoega watersehd in Zondoma Province, 4. Yako-Ouono watershed in Passore Province and 5. Guibare watershed and Lac Bam in Bam Province.
