Biodiversity Conservation Management Project
Project Summary
Project consists of development and implementation of management plans for three top priority sites identified by the Romanian Biodiversity Steering Committee in the Carpathian Mountains, including buffer zone and micro-enterprise, sustainable-use demonstration activities with local communities. Sites are (1) Piatra Craiului Biosphere Reserve (pristine mountain forests/alpine ecosystems harboring large carnivores), (2) Retezat National Park (coniferous forest/alpine meadow), (3) Neamt and Suceava (mixed hill forest and meadows/reintroduction of European bison). Project also supports a public awareness and education campaign, and capacity building at the local and national levels.
