Barrier Removal to Namibian Renewable Energy Programme, Phase I

Project Summary

The project will help to reduce the barriers for the development of the demand for solar technologies and thus mitigate greenhouse gas emissions by addressing institutional, information, human capacity, financial, technical, awareness and other market barriers to increased use of solar energy services by urban and rural households, government institutions, NGO facilities, beverage retailers, communal and commercial farmers. The project implemented in two phases will specifically assist local stakeholders in building local capacities to promote, finance, install and maintain solar applications, help to develop and implement favourable regulatory frameworks, and facilitate the establishment of viable financial mechanisms (micro lending and mortgage additions).
