Katya Kuang-Idba

Katya is a Climate Change Specialist with the Climate Change Adaptation team of the GEF Programs Unit, working on the GEF Adaptation portfolio financed by Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF). Prior to joining the GEF, Katya worked with the African Development Bank’s GEF Coordination Unit in Tunisia and in Cote d’Ivoire, where she contributed to the provision of capacity building and technical assistance activities toward the identification of adaptation needs and priorities, mainly in Least Developed Countries in Africa; as well as supporting these countries in accessing GEF funding, particularly from the LDCF. Katya also worked with the Institute of Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), supporting work on low carbon and integrated sustainable transportation and urban infrastructure projects. Katya also worked as a consultant with World Bank’s transport cluster, as a consultant on the USAID-funded Adaptation Thought Leadership and Assessment (ATLAS) project, and at UN Environment. Katya has a Master of Science in Global Climate and Energy Policy from the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and a Bachelor of Arts from the George Washington University. Thematic and regional expertise includes: West Africa and the Sahel, fragile and conflict affected situations, integrated urban and peri-urban development, migration and displacement, climate resilience & livelihood diversification, and private sector development (particularly MSMEs - micro, small, and medium enterprises).
