WASHINGTON, DC, April 22, 2013 – On Earth Day 2013, the global environment is under severe stress in several key areas including climate change and biodiversity loss, and transformational change is needed to reverse the negative trends, the head of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) said today.
Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson of the GEF, said its strong 22-year track record of financial support for projects to benefit the global environment puts the GEF in a unique position to promote transformational change in addressing global environmental challenges.
ISTANBUL, Turkey, April 9, 2013 - In the 10th session of the United Nations Forum on Forests, Global Environment Facility (GEF) CEO and Chairperson Naoko Ishii announced that financial support from the GEF for forest management programs has reached the half a billion US Dollar mark in the GEF-5 cycle.

A good example is the Coastal Award 2012 won by the Belitung Coastal Community Group (BCCG) on October 22 for the community group category to honor their tremendous efforts in developing Kepayang Island as a conservation site through ecotourism.
