“The discoveries were within my expectations of the place,” he said. “It’s a poorly surveyed area, and the topography is very complex.”

This, of course, comes on top of existing stressors that have already stretched conservation budgets thin, such as climate change, habitat loss and degradation, poverty, and illegal wildlife trade.
An isolated community in Jamaica embarked on a project to improve the community's access to water and management of their natural resources. As part of the GEF Small Grants Programme's Community-based Adaptation program, the project's best practices and technical designs have since been replicated across Jamaica and beyond.

A Belarusian civil society organization has planted more than 1 million trees in a Global Environment Facility-supported effort to help heal damage to the country’s forests inflicted by a widespread outbreak of bark beetles.
“Planting a tree is always about planting hope for the people,” said Anastasia Zhdanovich, Managing Director of the Belarusian Environmental Movement, a non-profit focused on solving environmental problems and fostering a progressive society that values nature.

Forty-eight years ago, in the small village of Kuz Metakhil, local farmer Sawri was born into a country on the verge of wars that still haven’t ended.
Located east of Kabul along the Pakistani border, Sawri still lives in Kuz Metakhil with her husband, three sons, and two daughters. The unforgiving land provides few opportunities for off-farm work, and while Sawri and her husband Rahman pursed the odd jobs they could find, often the children would have to wander far into the hills, cutting firewood to sell to their neighbors.
